Travel Info Presently, which all countries surrounding Israel are its enemies and are willing or capable of attacking it? Travel Tips Grendel, what are you smoking? Israel was never under any threat? And further, invented the threat to pre-emptively strike yada yada? Did you bother reading any history, or just making it up to fit your pre-composed opinion? It is historical fact that Egypt and Syria intended to attack Israel. While today Israel is widely respected for its military proficiency, this was certainly not the case 40 years ago when Israel was a small country of 20 years about to be attacked on 3 sides. It was a truelly remarkable and miraculous victory in 1967; Israel triumped with guts and luck. You know nothing about the Six Day War, and it shows. For starters, the "abrupt" strike was only against Egypt, not Syria or Jordan. Further, this "abrupt" strike came a month after Egypt blockaded Israel's port of Eilat which is, by the way, a declaration of war. The "abrupt" strike also happened to come after both Egypt and Syria loaded the border with called up reserves. After that, Israel sent a message to Jordan requesting that they don't join the war. Jordan obviously decided not to heed that request and moved in with their American tanks. They lost, as did Egypt as did Syria and they were the bad guys. They were the Goliath and Israel was David. Read about it some in history before you blast off your ignorant mouth. To respond to the "Israel is a nuclear threat" blabber, I have two things to say. Firstly, Israel has never confirmed that they do in fact have nuclear weapons. Secondly, assuming Israel does, they've shown amazing restraint in using them, as even when the situation was extremely dire and it seemed Israel might just lose (1973 Yom Kippur War), no nuclear explosion went off. For those two reasons I think it is quite clear that Israel is not a nuclear threat to anybody. A general answer the the question is that any and all countries can surprise you. In my humble opinion, I think the situation is like this: Egypt- currently has a sweet deal going on with the US, who supplies and trains their military to keep it somewhat on par with Israel's. Unless victory was an almost certainty, the leadership wouldn't sacrifice this deal. Either way, Egypt would need a new supplier country, which in theory could be Iran but probably won't happen. Now that the Soviet Union is gone, Egypt is less of a threat. Jordan- Wasn't as gung-ho as Syria and Egypt. Jordan happens to severely dislike the Palestinians after the attempted coup, and would probably avoid governing them again. The country has a reasonbly strong element against the monarchy, which could potentially create a push for armed struggle, but it seems Jordan's leadership is not interested in any more fighting. Lebanon- seems to be a country in chaos, which can work both ways. It doesn't seem that Lebanon harbors as much enmity towards Israel as the other countries do, and seems more moderate. However, there are extremist elements (most notably Hizbullah) that promote violence against Israel. It seems that Lebanon has no interest in attacking Israel, and especially now that UNIFIL is on the border the likelihood of attack is remote Syria- probably the only country with a credible threat of attack. Unlike Egypt and Jordan, Syria never signed a peace agreement with Israel and is very angry about the loss of the Golan. Syria has never attacked Israel on its own, and even when joined with Egypt, they lost those engagements. Until recently it seemed unlikely that Syria would test Israel in combat as Israel was shown to be superior many times. However, with Hizbullah's perceived success against Israel, there is a stronger possibility that Syria would attempt to confront Israel with unorthodox tactics, i.e. rocket/missile launches from deep within the country and attempted guerrilla and terrorist tactics when Israel invades. While it seems unlikely that war is on the horizon, we won't really know til this summer. Iran- while not close enough to pose an immediate threat, Iran is bankrolling the struggle against Israel through proxies. While this country is bad news, it doesn't have the resources to keep going as it is. The cost of supporting Hizbullah and other terrorist organizations is driving its own people into poverty; instead of spending funds domestically to improve its citizens life (Teheran is disgustingly polluted, with air pollution at high dangerous levels), it is sending it abroad. Iranian citizens seem very unhappy with this decision. Iran is trying to be a world power, but simply put has not developed its infrastructure enough to meet the monetary demand of that course. I don't think Iran will ever achieve nuclear weapons. Others All evil ones like Syria, Iran, Palestine, Israel is the only country in the middle east with nuclear weapons. They are a threat to the other countries that surround it, not the other way around. Did I mention that Israel has never signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, designed to prevent the global spread of nuclear weapons? I do like the first answer you received though. Quite humorous. Palestine capable of attacking Israel. With what? Rocks and small scale rockets? Please. Syria, Iran, "Palestine"(Gaza territory), and Lebanon because of the Hezbollah... and bia bia Palestine is able to attack not with rock but with weapons from Iran all are enemies all willing not all completely capable Well Israel has a peace treaty with Jordan and Egypt. While it may not always be popular with the populace of those nations it dose insure the likelihood that war will not break out anytime in the near future between Israel and the nations of Egypt and Jordan. If you wish to call Gaza a separate entity then you can say that it is not only capable of attacking Israel, but it is currently doing so. But those attacks while serious do not have the ability to destabilize Israel. in the same way Hezbollah in Southern Lebanon has the ability to cause even more damage to Israel and even do light invasions of its territory, but they do not have the ability to destroy Israel. The only nation next to Israel that can is Syria. If full scale war were to break out they are the only country that has a remote chance of destroying Israel. Though so far their record in trying is not so good. Israel main enemy is Israeli occupation. |
