What is appropriate to wear in Israel? |
Travel Info I am visiting Tel Aviv and Jerusalem in June. I am an American woman, and I'm afraid my closet might be full of no-no's. What is and is not appropriate for a tourist to wear? I don't want to offend anyone, but I also don't want to spend a bunch of money on "cover-up" clothes I don't need. Travel Tips In Tel Aviv there are no "no-no's". Feel free to wear (or not wear) whatever you want. In Jerusalem, you can generally wear what you want but if you go to super religious neighborhoods like Mea Shearim or to religious sites like the Western Wall and Church of the Holy Sepulchre, then you'll be expected to dress more conservatively. Jerusalem is generally a conservative place, so I would recommend wearing a long, but light, dress there. Others Clothes of course.. but don't dress as GI Jane or wear any b*mbs or "I hate Israel Tshirts" its too hot dowen there but there is nothing to do a bout it and dont wory every body is half naked dowen there so no need forcover up the only thing u need is some short sleves tshirts. hi The weather is Israel in June is usually hot So you need just light cloth . In Jerusalem it might be a little bit chilly in the evening. By the way the fashion is Israel is gorgeous and the cloth are in expensive. if you go to Jerusalem cover up you arms and legs especially in holy places, in Tel Aviv wear what ever you want... you don't have to cover up in Israel only when you go to holy places so don't worry and have fun. relax-Tel Aviv dress as you would in new york city-from casual to dress-June is mild hot to hot hot and possible rain, Jerusalem is more elevated so it will be very warm to mild hot, there are orthodox communities spread around our city, so wear a dress below your knees and sleaves-they have been known to call names to inapropriate dress and dont use transportation on sabbath near these areas either. you may get stones thrown at you. in the prince of peace "Unto us a child will be born, a son given and he will be almighty God and the prince of peace. Isaiah 9:6 good question, Shalom, David wear what you are comfy in you will see the people dressed in all kinds of gear some with out anything especially on the beaches, gets me though they all share the same beach and they are miles long but the muslim arabs go down to gawk and shake their heads in disgust, why do they go without their wives I wonder??? but you will love it Jerusalem is my favourite city in all the world its a pity there are some restrictions on travel the first time i went in 1991 i went all over Israel mainly by bus, in 2003 it was quite different some areas we could not get to , but its still worth a visit loads of historicle sites, like Absolems tomb under the city walls, read up as much as you can before hand, enjoy and do not worry about your attire others wont, |
