Have you read 'Londonistan' by Melanie Phillips? |
Travel Info I think it's the best non fiction book I've ever read; it's thought provoking, relevant, and well written. If you've read it, do you agree? Travel Tips No, I haven't read the book, you should share more details about it. Others You asked this two hours ago! I have no desire to read the drivel penned by a contributor to the right wing, racist, homophobic, misogynistic Daily Mail. EDIT To Tabatha below: The questioner did post the same question two hours earlier. Here is the link: http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/ind... Please TRY to get your facts right! also, what is abusive about my answer. I have merely commented, in a pretty mild manner, about the editorial stance of a particular paper. What is your problem with that? I'm not sure why the person who answered just before me felt the need to be so abusive. And for their info, this question was not asked two hours ago. I have read this book, and I thought it was totally and utterly brilliant. In fact, I'd go so far as to suggest that it should be compulsory reading! The fact that recently in the UK it was announced that Muslims can now have special mortgage packages that comply with 'sharia' law simply lends weight to everything Melanie Phillips says in this book. EDIT: to the person who responded just after me, and claims that 'Melanie Phillips is biased towards Israel because she's Jewish' - by your logic, no woman could ever discuss abortion, as she too would be 'biased' and equally no Muslim could ever discuss the Middle East, as they too would be 'biased'. So as you can see, your point makes no sense whatsoever! I've never read many things by her. Whilst I disagree with Islamic terrorism, and well, the Islam religion as a whole...the woman herself just does my head in. Her work is so one-sided because she is biased towards Israel since she's Jewish. I completely disagree with her negative views on multiculturism as well. It's not just that that annoys me about her, it's her scepticism against the MMR vaccination despite scientific evidence that there is no link between autism and MMR, calling global warming 'utter rubbish' and garbling on about evolution being a myth. The woman just doesn't understand science. Many scientists have spoke against her because she just doesn't know what she's talking about, she writes for the sake of being controversial. edit: You completely twisted my words Tabatha. I never said she can't discuss Islam because she's biased, she can do what she damn well wants...I said that her written work is always so one-sided because she's so biased towards Israel. Your arguement against me is ridiculous - if another Jewish writer wrote about the same issue but brought in more sides than one, then it shows that he/she is a much more skilled and talented writer for falling into the trap of being too one-sided shows a weak minded writer. I have- and I must say despite being an opponent of creeping Islamicisation in the UK- I felt her treatment of Islam was rather problematic and somewhat simplistic. It smacked of misunderstanding and rather dubious assertions. It does not help the nationalist cause to be made out to sound a fool, especially and ignoramus, so I'm afraid, despite the promising title- it wasn't very good for me. Was a good effort to promote discussion in this area though. |
