Travel Info Not long from now, I will be working in Israel as a caregiver. Can anyone tell me how is it there? Travel Tips It really depends where you are staying. I'm also a foreigner in Israel. I'm not Jewish so a "real" foreigner. Israel is great but it does depend where you are staying. The only area I can really talk about is Tel Aviv and Herzliya, as the other places I have only been for a day. Tel Aviv is a great city, modern, good people, and a long night life. From my experiences the only thing you have to get used to is getting your bag searched when you enter a shop/bar. You get used to it in a week. Although news might make it seem very scary, I've never once felt unsafe or intimidated. Everybody speaks english to some extent and after a while you will pick up enough hebrew so your broken hebrew and their broken english will get you by. But most Israelis are fluent in English. Oh and by the way, always make sure the taxi drivers put on the meteor. No MATTER what they say. For Israelis the meteor is on automatically but once they a hear a foreign accent they may chance their arm. All in all, its a great country, so don't be worried. But like any new country you go to, keep your eyes open. Hope this helped, have a good time Others You're going to another country to be a caregiver? Do yourself a favor and stay home. Like the person above said, Israel is a great place. Tel Aviv is certainly the most cosmopolitan and lively part of the country, but the rest of it is also very nice as well. Some things to be aware of: -most Israelis speak good English -Israelis can be difficult- we tend to be very blunt and rude (manners and politeness aren't valued so much here), but we are also very warm and inviting people -when you enter a taxi, always insist that they turn on the meter ("monei"); if they persist and don't do so, then get out and hail down another cab (there are cabs everywehre, they're very easy to find) -Israelis, despite our personalities, tend to be very laid back -it's a very safe country!! when you go into shopping centres and some restaurants, for example, you will be wanded by a security guard at the entrace; it seems uncomfortable at first, but it should give you some peace of mind; in general, you'll realize that terrorist attacks are incredibly infrequent these days and that violent domestic crime levels are very low (generally, it's a safer place than the USA and many European countries) Hope you have a good time here!!! Israel is an excellent place. Tel Aviv rocks, Jerusalem is a must and doin麓t forger Eilat, it is a fantastic holiday town on the Red sea. In general Israel is great, safe, and lots off cool people. I am on my way next week. Good luck and have a safe journey. |
