Does Hamas represent the collective, majority will of the Palestinians? |
Travel Info If so, that is who the "quartet" must deal with to achieve anything. Will Hamas negotiate with the Israelis? Are they actually terrorists? Hamas got a majority in parliament as the result of a protest vote. Most who voted for them did NOT expect them to get a majority, but simply wanted to give "notice" of some discomfort. they are "terrorists" and they are an ugly bunch of reactionary, fundamentalist, restrictive, extreme, narrow-minded, backward-oriented religious zealots. The present development for the Palestinians in a way includes the chance to overcome the total standstill which came about as a result of those parliamentary elections. It is often forgotten, that President Abbas also was voted into office in a democratic election. My support is with Fatah and M. Abbas... the more moderate of the groups! Travel Tips In the most recent poll I saw, 49% of Palestinians would vote for Fatah and 42% for Hamas if elections were held today. I guess that means Hamas does not represent the majority, but pretty close to it. Further, Hamas may have been elected democratically, but that doesn't make them anything less of a terrorist entity. They still indiscriminately kill civilians (both Israeli and Palastinian). Also, all because Hamas was elected democratically doesn't mean the world has to deal with them; if England for example elected a prime minister who didn't recognize America's independence and openly called for reconquering the country, you can bet America would cut ties with them. Hamas refuses to recognize Israel, refuses to abide by previous agreements and refuses to cease terror attacks, and for that reason they were black-listed. Others Wow...! "they are 'terrorists' and they are an ugly bunch of reactionary, fundamentalist, restrictive, extreme, narrow-minded, backward-oriented religious zealots" Usually I read this kind of statements from Israelis. "Hamas" is an Islamic Palestinian Sunni resistance movement was created by "Shaikh Yassin" at the beginning of the first Intifada. They elected legally by Palestinian people who were unsatisfied of Fatah group. It means people elected another group democratically. Immediately after election US and Israel began to destroy Hamas. US and some European countries blocked Palestinian budget that is necessary for managing their government. Then Israel attacked to Hamas continuously and kidnapped some Hamas parliament members. They are in Israel jails now. http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/2006-... http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/world... Hamas had to accept Fatah (In fact US & Israel ideas) in such a pressure and threats. Now, they want to wipe off Hamas compeletly and it means a real coup. Hamas is elected by people and if they don't want it should remove. Not by US and Israel pressures. US wants to repress all the protesters even if they elected democraticaly. It mean double standards policy again in the name of peace...! http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/... I don't think Fatah solution works for peace. Because Israel doesn't want to make peace and US isn't a peace-maker...! They just want enough opportunity for run out the rest of Palestinian and kill more protesters. This is a message from US, some European countries and Israel, that: Palestinian even don't have right to elect their government and if they elected someone who we don't like, they will have more troubles. It's not that I like too much Hamas, but they were voted by the majority of Palestinians and we know very well that they were voted because of the corruption inside Fatah and because of Fatah's incapability of bringing anything new in the peace negotiations... Yes,Hamas wanted to negotiate with Israel, they offered a 10 years truce for the beginning as long as Israel withdraws from the territories it occupied in 1967...All they got was Israel's refuse to even consider this... As for Fatah do you really think that Israel is going to negotiate with them?People seem to forget that Hamas came into power a year ago...Until then,if Israel really wanted ,it could have negotiated so many times with Fatah, but it didn't...And now they are going to find another reason not to do it... And Abbas, yes,he was elected democratically...but Abbas is nothing more then a puppet of the Western countries who can't bring anything good for the Palestinians... I do not support Hamas,Fatah or Abbas...My support is with the Palestinian people... DANIEL W allow me to remind you that it was a cease fire when Hamas came into power. And also allow me to remind you who broke the cease fire by killing Palestinian civilians on a beach and also allow me to remind you who broke again the cease fire by killing Palestinians in Beit Hanoun...Selective memory or you don't want to write facts that could show who exactly doesn't want peace there.... Mr Y.."Hitler also was voted democratically does that ,mean he was a legitimate leader?"..with all the respect, this was stupid...If someone is democratically elected, then yes, this means that he is a legitimate leader...Did anyone complain when Israelis chose democratically as PM a war criminal?Did anyone said that he is not a legitimate leader? Oh Mr Y this was not the point...I am not comparing Hitler with Sharon...I was just trying to tell you that no matter what those people are, they are legitimate leaders as long as their people elected them...If you chose to understand something else,it's not my fault... Don't make me laugh about Sharon and Gaza...Good old Sharon gave Gaza as a sign of good faith...Yeah right... And no thanks,I am not going to join anything,I have this problem with extremists,of all kind... I support a regime that stands for the best interests of the Palestinian people. Fatah (supported by Israel and the US), is not that in the slightest. I do not think Hamas has the ability to achieve it's goals either. After all, most of their political leaders have been imprisoned or killed in Fatah's failed attempt to remove them from power. What Palestine needs is a REAL unity government who will make a difference. But the US and Israel will never allow progress in Palestine, don't people understand that? Here is an article that I recommend you read. http://www.alternativenews.org/blogs/nas... Hamas has refused to recognise Israel and refused to renounce violence. Put simply how can you negotiate with a group that has your destruction as its primary aim? Hamas want an Islamic State in place of Israel not a two state solution existing side by side in peace. To the poster above, the US and EU cut aid not budget, they recognise Hamas as a terrorist organsation (which it IS) and they have strict rules on supporting terrorist activities, that is why aid was cut - they didn't want their money to support terrorism in Israel. Hamas offered a 10 year truce in return for a de facto Palestinian state. Why not a ceasefire and decommisioning their weapons - to give them time to regroup and arm themselves even better so they can "drive the Jews into the sea" after 10 years. It's like Assad's proposal (the former President of Syria not the current one) that Israel returned the Golan Heights prior to peace talks. Yes it does. It is based on hate. Someone here said that Hamas stands for the rights of their people.... what right is that? To kill? To starve? To hate freely? What right? They want an entire country of Israel gone! They want all the Jews dead! People wake up! hamas are Gangsters who just want to pick a fight fatah are Thieves who only think of power and money, they are very Corrupted, palestinians need to change themselfs and their leaders to live a better life |
