Travel Info in isreal there are the jews (either askenezi or sephardi jews the msulims and the christians as well as the other religions in isreali society there are also the arab isreali. bar the fact that they are of arab origin i dont konw much else about them can someone tell me about them facts such there religion and life style please Travel Tips They fit in at the bottom, but well above Palestinians who have no citizenship. In the north of Israel they're better tolerated than in the south. Haifa and Nazareth are the best cities for them to live, but Nazareth has been surrounded by Jewish settlements which have all but strangled the old city and killed off trade in it. Status in Israeli society very much depends on who you were and what you did in the army. Only Bedouin and Druze Arabs can volunteer for the army, a small minority. The majority are Muslim but there is a large Christian minority. The Christians used to be far more numerous but very many have emigrated (they find it much easier to be accepted in the West than the Muslims, and in some areas the Muslims consider them pro-Western or even pro-Israeli, so they give them problems). The Druze are a separate religion. There are also many Armenians, Greeks, Syriacs (who speak Aramaic, Jesus' language), Samaritans and others who are classified as Arabs by Israel. Those in East Jerusalem, where they are the great majority, have a different legal status from either Israeli Arabs or Palestinians. It's extremely complicated. Others I don't have facts but I am sure they have the freedom to choose where they want to fit in, whether it be with christians or Muslims or even convert to Judaism and if they choose to be atheist. In Israel the Arabs are second class citizens. They are known as Israeli Arabs. Sure, Arab Israelis can vote and have a few token representatives in the Knesset, but they do not have full rights as citizens - or human rights for that matter. In January, for example, Shimon Peres requested the ethnic cleansing of over 40,000 Arab Israelis from their centuries old villages, the Knesset voted for it, and shortly thereafter the bulldozers arrived.
