I think that it is assinine. Israel has long been forced to do this in the name of peace, however, I have yet to see the Palestinians cease the attacks against Israel. I think that it is time that Israel be allowed to defend itself from those that attack it, and releasing prisioners that have attacked Israel before into the general population is not a good way of defending itself. I can guarantee you that if we close Guantanimo Bay down, bring all of those terrorists here and give them the rights that we have to defense we will we doing the same thing here, releasing murderers back into the general population.
Well, it would like to. Israel would only release those prisoners who have been held for a while and "don't have blood on their hands". However, since it is difficult to find that many prisoners, this has yet to happen.

I read the link Michael posted and agree with his answer. The prisoners with minor crimes.
Israel is gonna release prisoners that comited theft crimes but not those that murder people.
israel is under and has been under for some time; pressure from internal and external human rights organisations, as well as the United Nations; to release tens of thousands of hostages that are being held by the IDF. These people have not broken any law, they were simply picked up off the street. They are not murders, and they are not thieves. They are essentially political prisoners.
