Retired , never been to Jamaica want to go but not as a tourist? |
Travel Info Mandiville area, or the common folk areas Travel Tips no... first of all you have to accept that in Jamaica you can only be two things.. a tourist or a local.... with all the consequences that this implies... if you don't want to go to the most popular tourist areas but prefer something more quiet... that's different... but for no reason don't ever think that you can be a "self made local" don't rent a house in the middle of nowhere and plan to rent a car and buy a map.... you cant do that in Jamaica Mandeville and Port Antonio are 2 good options for those tourist that look for a different type of environment but you must stick to the tourist life there. Keep in mind that Jamaica is in the top 3 countries for murder.... the rules there are totally different form the ones you have at home. Having said that I still think Jamaica is one of the most blessed country in the world but like anywhere else... don't bring your rules to it... adapt to the local custom and you will have a great time Others Mandeville is overrated very small but not much interaction with the locals unless you spend time with a local which might be an idea. Many bed and breakfast to consider. If you rent a villa and have maid services this will not restrict you to a particular property. Negril is very unspoilt however Port Antonio and St. Mary are very very beautiful areas tp consider for a laid back life and ecotourism. Check out the guest houses. http://www.portantoniojamaica.com/guest-... http://www.jamaicaplacestostay.com/... you should go because it is a lot of fun, do it I would suggest Saint James, this way I can tell you more about the place, how to get an apartment to live with local folks if you are int rested please post another question |
