Honeymoon in Jamaica for a Jamaican in Jamaica? |
Travel Info I live in Jamaica and I'm planning to get married here in a few months. Do you have any relatively inexpensive ideas for a local honeymoon? Off the beaten track (not Negril, Ocho Rios or Montego Bay). I never do the "tourist-y" stuff like going to Dunn's River Falls or anything; I want something laid back where there's some privacy. Any idea of the cost? Travel Tips I would consider Treasure Beach, on the south coast east of Black River. There are numerous private villas that go for about US$180 nightly. You will be the only ones in the villa, and most offer a chef as well. Jakes, Treasure Beach Hotel, and Golden Sands Hotel are there as well. Golden Sands is the most affordable(about US$60nightly). Also, where ever you decide, remember to ask for local rates. Others Regardless of where you go, you need somewhere romantic. Forget Treasure Beach. I would suggest that you go to Portland. There is a villa that is rated number 1 in Portland. Goblin Hill. The villas are quiet and private, come with a helper to do your cooking and cleaning. You can provide the menu and they prepare the food, but I think that would be too costly. You can take the food there and tell them what to prepare and when. They also have areas where you can relax on their expansive lawn in absolute privacy. Have a look at their website. They offer Jamaicans special rates. They cost $7000-9500 per night depending on the view from villa. You can also check Royal Reef, Runaway Bay Heart, Milk River, Altamont Court as well as the Mayfair. Try River Lodge, meals included, not listed....river-lodge.com. Really good for the price. Strawberry Hill is quite nice, and would really be my pick of the lot (though it is the most expensive). They all offer special rates for Jamaicans. You can find them in the Yellow Pages.
