i snorkled while there and really enjoyed it. there is an area where you can walk and shop in a flea market type setting, however, be careful and go with someone. they kept trying to seperate me and my girlfriend and will go to extreme measures to do so. we got scared actually. stay in the larger populated areas and dont wear orange. LOL my son had on his tennessee vols t shirt and they were having problems there, the taxi driver took us immediatly to a shop and we bought him a local shirt. there were cops on all the corners with rifles. we were limited where we could go.
JA is not the murder capitol of the world. Voilence is only dominant in the inner city of kingston and montego bay - mostly spanish town.
You have nothing to fear because u won't go there - u just wouldn't be allowed. Take normal precautions and u'll be fine
Enjoy urself - go to nightclubs, eat alot, stay at an all - inclusive hotel, do all the water sports, village historic places.

Violence isn't even a problem in Kingston, as long as you are aware of what's going on. I have been into Trenchtown on a couple of occasions and didn't feel particularly scared. Not bad for an old white geezer.
