Are there any Black people in Tokyo? |
Travel Info I'm a big fan of japanese culture and plan to visit soon/maybe stay longer to do some training, etc. I was wondering if there are any black people in tokyo! Is it possible to just chill and meet people without standing out to much and being looked at funny?Would I get discriminated against more than an average "gaijin"? Thank you very much for helping me out! Travel Tips I remember when I used to go out to party at the clubs and bars in the Roppongi area, it seemed like every other person I saw was black (no kidding). None of them seemed to stand out anymore than a white gaijin, especially in that area. Tokyo is full of people from all over the world. You shouldn't have any problems. When I lived there, there were a couple black guys from America staying near my apartment, and they never had any complaints. Actually, the opposite was true. Young Japanese often wanted to meet them and talk to them because they were black! Enjoy your time in Tokyo. It's a great place! Source(s): 8 years in Japan Other Travel Tips Haha your cute and funny, maybe but i doubt it. Of course japanese people would look at you funny. Its like a white guy going to the ghettto. How would that look? you should be fine. Japan is a very diverse place. As long as you learn some japanese, you shouldnt stand out too much. ive seen japanese fighting circuits and japanese TV shows with other races in them Yes, there are a lot of black people in Tokyo. Well, there is not much chance of you "not" standing out since you will probably be much taller than the average Japanese and darker. But since there are many black people people won't stare at you as much unless you are trying to get attention. You wouldn't get discriminated against if you followed regular moral behavior, but if you did something wrong or bad, you would be treated accordingly. Enjoy your trip. YEs, I have seen many black people around in Tokyo and outskirt of Tokyo plus the surrounding prefectures. SOme spoke American English and some I cant understand their language. However, so far i have not encountered or heard any discrimination against the black people yet. |
