There is no president in Japan.
The head of the Japanese government is the prime minister, and so far, there has never been a female prime minister in Japan.
I'm Japanese.
The form of government in Japan does not allow for a president, rather, the leader of Japan is the "Prime Minister". There have been no female prime ministers in Japan.
Here is an interesting link about women in politics in Japan:
http://www.glocom.org/special_topics/soc...

The highest office to which a female has risen is a cabinet member, or leader of her political party. The most notable leader of a Japanese political party is Makiko Tanaka. She was the leader of the Social Democratic party. Her father was a former prime minister. She was also Minister for Foreign Affairs in the early years of Koizumi's prime ministership. That is until she totally betrayed him and declared war on his policies. Here is an interesting article about that:

Here is Ms. Tanaka's profile:

There are only two female members of the present prime ministers cabinet. They are:
Sanae Takaichi-Minister of State for Okinawa and Northern Territories Affairs, Science and Technology Policy, Innovation, Gender Equality, Social Affairs and Food Safety

Hiroko Ota-Minister of State for Economic and Fiscal Policy

They are way down on the pecking order though.

In prime minister Koizumi's cabinet, there was one female in a very high position. She was Chieko Nohno. Minister of Justice / Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Measures for Declining Birthrate. She was third in line for the prime ministership.

Other females in Koizumi's cabinet were Yuriko Koike, Minister of the Environment
Minister of State for Okinawa and Northern Territories Affairs.

Hope that helps.
In the current system, Japan has had not had a female Prime Minister. But Japan has had two female emperors, Kogyoku and Koken.
No, Japan has a prime minister, and HIS name is Shinzo abe
Although no Prime Minister has been a woman, the FIRST recorded ruler in Japanese history was a female! Her name is Empress Himiko (sometimes known as Pimiko).
