Others AmeYoko in Ueno Tokyo. Good place for buying stuff like clothes. What exactly are you shopping for? If it is a supermarket you mean, there are supermarkets everywhere. Can you be more specific? Tsukiji Fish Market is definitely a good place to go if you don't mind fish and live things. Go early in the morning, wear shoes that you won't mind getting wet because you'll be trudging through fishy puddles. Ameyoko is also really great. Take the JR to Ueno station and it's across the street. It's like a long area of booths and small stalls where you can get clothes, fish, veggies, dried foods, herbal medicines. I love it there. If it is Japanese souvenirs you are after, take the subway to Asakusa station and you will find a nice shopping arcade of (sometimes hopelessly touristy) stuff. It's good for a walk around and of course you can visit the big Sensouji Temple there. Also, any department store has a supermarket and food area, usually located on the bottom floor. You can find many department stores located near Shinjuku, Tokyo, Ginza, and Ikebukuro stations. The prices may be a bit high but you'll get to see interesting foods and items there. Considering the vagueness as to what you want to buy....I'd say Asakusa (Nakamise Dori) and Ameyoko...lots of souvenirs to buy there. Supermarkets can be found everywhere. Tsukiji is Tokyo's largest fish market and now is the time to visit, because they are gonna close soon and move to a different location. Action packed place. Tsukiji fish market is great... |
