Is the customer KING? |
Travel Info Is the customer KING? Travel Tips This is an interesting question. I would have to say that it depends on what store you enter. I have been in stores where you are treated so great and they speak to you so kindly, even give you a free drink. But on the other hand, I have been in stores where you are spoken to with a very short attitude. I have had some clerks speak down to me because they thought I knew nothing about what I was asking about. Then other clerks in the same store were so kind. I guess it not only depends on the store, but also on the individual clerk. Some are great, some are so so, and others are down right rude. I guess you have to just roll the dice and see what/who you get. Japanese store, however, like American store, have that old mantra, "The customer is always right." They don't act on it though. One time I had a terrible time at BEST DENKI, you know, the big electronics store chain in Japan. I was treated with disrespect and disregarded as a customer. I went in and really chewed our the clerk I was dealing with. I even called the floor manager. I was barking at them for over 15 minutes. Finally I asked, "So, what are you going to do to keep me as a customer?" They looked at each other and basically shrugged their shoulders. "What do you want?" was the reply. My reply... "gift certificates". I didn't name an amount though. Two days later, the manager came to my house apologized over and over and gave me a small box of gift certificates. I was expecting 5000 yen or something like that. They gave me 20,000 worth. Needless to say, I was happy. Now, whenever I go to BEST DENKI, and I see either one of those guys, yes, I AM KING! Source(s): Me. Personal experience. Other Travel Tips would depend on how you act. If you act dumb you wont be treated good. That is up to you. C You mean the customer at a store? Are you asking if the Japanese treat customers like "kings"? If that is your question, then I would have to say that this is true. They always give a welcome to everyone who enters the store, and if you have a question, they will speak very politely to you and be eager to help. They always speak formally to customers. They will speak very humble speech when you approach them. This is customary for employees of shops and businesses throughout Japan. Actually in Japan it would be Emperor. Not king. Customer is God in Japan. Always right. but this God has few power. The customer is God in Japan but you find the devils among them too. |
