The only reason here would be "money", but as a matter of fact there's no profit in killing dolphins in Japan. I haven't seen iruka meat anywhere for sale or as a part of a fancy menu.Nothing else can be used as a reason for killing dolphins.
I don't deny that in Japan, as well as in Northern Europe there are cases of dolphin killings.

Only I must stress on two points:
1.Isolated cases cannot be called massive killings.
2.The Japanese government and many wild life preservation groups are taking measures to fight such killings. They are illegal, and the fishermen who kill dolphins are subjects to legal prosecution.
Your concern about the cruelty and murder of living creatures is admirable, but , as Joriental says, maybe it would be good to study little bit more.

Not only Japan. Europe and the some race in the US does as well.
Study first.
Don't hide under the name of Anonymous. This kind of posting is seen just for insulting Japan.
I'm very serious.
There is no "massive killing" of dolphins going on in Japan. That sounds like a description from animal rights activists. The dolphins are killed for their meat to eat. It is done in the United States and Canada, too.

There are people being slaughtered in Sudan, but people are more worried about dolphins. It's sad...
I read that they like Dolphin meat.
Serious answer:
They aren't endangered. It's no different than the MASSIVE killings of cows and chickens worldwide. Many more of them are slaughtered in one month than the dolphins in a whole year.
dolphins and whales had been regarded as fish for a long time in japan till we recognized them as mammal.
considering our medieval custom which officially had forbidden freasheating(except fish and birds) ,it may be a good reason for japanese whale/dolphin-eating custom.

but we hardly eat them nowadays.i have eaten whale-meat but never dolphin.

BTW

eating is just culture.before we Japan met western culture again(around 1850),we almost never ate cows.it might be unbelievable when you see today's our meal, but this is true.even drinking milk was regarded as barbarous act.

how do you feel when you are told"stop eating divine cows" from religious Hindu,or about pigs from Muslim??
eating-custom should be respected as native culture.
before such question which is beside the point, give thanks to your today's dish.

you should know the difference between just killing and slaughtering to eat.
Americans kill millions of cows and chickens...What's the difference ? Does one animal have more right to life than another ? Watch Soylent Green..
