Can I install a japanese fluorescent ceiling lamp in my house in Canada? |
Travel Info If I buy a ceiling lamp from Japan, can I install it in my house in Canada? Do I need any special wiring or hardware to make it work? I know the voltage is 100v in japan and in canada it`s 110v for appliances... but what about ceiling lights for wiring?銆€I love how bright japanese ceiling lights are and havent found anything comparable in canada. thanks in advance! Travel Tips I agree with "looking." You'd need someone who is handy with electrical stuff to help you out. If you are in Japan now, I'd leave the electrical part and just take the decorative parts home to Canada. If you are having a fixture shipped I don't think it's worth the price. In Japan there's a disc screwed to the ceiling, like a cross between an outlet and the mouth of a jar. To install a light you plug in the cord and screw the base of the light fixture into the disc. Therefore if you don't have this disc on your ceiling, not only will you need to strip the wires--you will have no way to affix the fixture to your Canadian ceiling. It depends on the style of light you want. . .some do hang from 3-4 little chains (they hook on to aforementioned disc). . .you would definitely need to be creative to solve the problem. You would not be able to install it "as is." Others If you can strip the wires and connect it directly, yes. But most of the light fixtures in Japan come with the light plug connection that is unique to Japan. Or, if you can connect the Japanese female light fixture plug to your ceiling, that would be okay, too. |
