Does reserved seat required for Shinkansen from Fukuoka to Hiroshima? |
Travel Info I plan to travel from Fukuoka (Hakata stn) to Hiroshima. Do I need to book a reserved seat on Shinkansen? or just the normal ticket is enough. Travel Tips I would say no. I've used the JR pass a few times between Hiroshima and Hakata and have always gotten a seat. The best thing to do is to get there around 15 mins early so you can get a good spot in the que. But most times I have travelled it has been quiet. The worst case scenario is you'll have to stand for around 1 hour and 15 mins which is not that bad, but I'd doubt it if you will have to. Public holidays would be a problem but it's all about getting in the que early to get a good spot. For a train timetable in English I recommend going to http://www.hyperdia.com/cgi-english/hype... Others Normal ticket is OK, but you'll have to travel in one of the 3-5 cars with non-reserved seats. Under "normal ticket" do you mean only jousha ken (permission to use the vehicle) or joushaken + special express charge which is usually 2/3 of the price of joushaken? It all depends on when you will be traveling. If you plan to travel during a national holiday or between 4pm and 6pm, I would highly recommend making a reservation. Or else you might be stuck standing the whole way. If you are traveling in the afternoon, you should be able to get a seat in the regular cars. Enjoy your trip. Shinkansen fares are three-piered; 1) normale charge (josha-ken) covers ther journey from point A to point B. 2) express charge (tokky-ken) entitles you to ride faster trains, including Shinkansen. 3) seat reservation fee (zaseki yoyaku) - this is optional and cost an additonal 500 yen or so. You don't have to reserve seats if you don't want to: you can still sit in non-revervation cars. But as the other poster says, during peak hours and holidays, it:s safer to make a reservation. If you don't the have a reservation the worst thing that can happen is you will have to stand. You might want to go to the buffet car and check out the speedometer in any case. It's sort of like a stand-up bar in the buffet car, it's not so bad at all. Chances are you will find a seat though. |
