IS $3,000 US enough for a week trip to Japan? |
Travel Info I want to go to Japan for one week. Is $3,000 enough for plane ticket, food, place to stay, etc? I DO NOT plan on spending my money like crazy, maybe a few suvioners here and there. Please let me know if this is enough - JUST ESTIMATE it. Travel Tips Probably, but you'll have more fun and less stress when you have a bigger cushion of money. If you are a big eater, maybe you should bring more. I'm a female in my 30's 130lbs and I usually have to order twice. You don't want to waste vacation time just to find a "cheap" place to eat, sleep, or to buy things. Some places in Japan you'll be walking quite a distance, 15 min of walking is usually no big deal in Japan; they consider that nearby. As far as souvenirs are concerned, the prices are about the same (a little cheaper in certain areas). Not a big difference in price to waste 1 or 2 hours comparison shopping. Just airline tickets could run approx $1,000 roundtrip, depending on where your origin is. Then you would have to calculate hotel, motel, hostels, etc. Place to sleep can be a bit pricey... At the Narita airport there's a visitors booth that has some brochures that accommodate visitors. If you are in the military, check the military bases for hotel availabilities. If you can't find a place, love motels are usually cheaper. Some have themes like Safari, Asian, Hearts, etc. As far as host family... Many require advanced notice, restrictions, etc. Plus you have to respect their culture and home. Hotels, etc you could do your own thing and not have to impose. Also consider mode of transportation...Train, taxi, bus, etc Food. Quite small and pricey. The biggest size of drinks in 7-11 is a small size in America. Not trying to put a downer... Just be prepared. Bring a lot of travelers checks, if you don't use them all, you could always use them back in the US. Because vacation really sucks when you run out of money or if you have to sacrifice on things you would like to have. Cost wise...Hmmmmm I would say $5,000. Being a big eater and want to actually enjoy the culture. Tourist things places to see & be mostly cost money to get in or get to. You could always redeposit your travelers checks in your savings when you get home. You could find deals / specials. Try checking your local wholesaler for airline tickets / package deals. If you are planning to do ala carte or backpack, I suggest you invest in the JR pass. A one way bullet train from Tokyo to Hiroshima may be approx $100 US, non refundable if you miss your train. But with a JR pass, just catch the next train, the pass allows you unlimited rides on several, not all modes of transportation on the JR lines...Bullet trains, trains, buses, and ferry. Below is the website for the Japan National Tourist Organization. It has information on different regions of Japan that you could download and print, also info on JR pass. http://www.jnto.go.jp/eng/ Use a search engine on travel guides to find websites like virtual tourist, fodors, lonelyplanet...etc. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&rlz=1... Try also making pen pals with someone in Japan, that way you immerse yourself in the local way of life. Hope this helps, have fun in Japan. Others i doubt it Well it will vary depending on where you leave from, what part of Japan you are headed to, and when you take your trip, but I think it's managable. According to Priceline, you could fly to from New York to Tokyo 4/5-4/11 and stay in a 4 star hotel for $2,204. Check out Priceline, Travelocity, Hotels.com, etc and compare. Good luck! Depending on when you fly, and where from, the fare could eat up half of that. Japan is expensive. You could find some discount hotels, eat at small local restaurants, and not shop, and possibly not go over budget. Here's an informative site about budgeting a Japan trip: http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2410.html... It should be. I have several friends in Japan and those who have visited from here in East/West coast ended up getting pretty good deals on hotel and air (they have found hotel + air for as cheap as 1300-1600 during spring/summer time. Foood is dirt cheap there, so you shouldn't have much problem there. Are you going to Tokyo or somewhere else? Where are you flying from? Additional information would be helpful. For one week, you'll do fine. Round trip ticket, roughly $1,000. Hotel.....for a decent place, a minumum of $50-60 a night. Food.....If you are cheap, $4 or more per meal. Transportation...depends on how far you go. Stick to buses and trains. DON'T ever take taxis.... I lived there for 3 years. If you do some research and look around, you'll do fine. Contact a travel agent for a good deal. The things in Japan is really expensive, my friend went there once. If you plan to stay in a hotel... I don't think the 3 thousand is enough to cover everything, the plane ticket can take up to a thousand or more.. depending where your destination is... I think staying with a host family would save you a lot more.. why? first... your stay, food, and they could really help you out with good locations to visit, and cheap places to shop for souvenirs.. and i think you will have a lot more fun if you got company then by yourself in a hotel. |
