Can you use American appliances in Toyko, Japan? Like a hair straightner?

Travel Info
Can you use American appliances in Toyko, Japan? Like a hair straightner? Thanks!

Travel Tips
You can use almost all your american appliances, its just that the electric current wont be as powerful so it may seem like your item isnt getting its full effect fast enough. Just dont try to use your clocks, those will be very off because of the watt flow, best to get a Japanese clock or just wear a wristwatch. Source(s): my student handbook. haha
Other Travel Tips
yes
yes, but you have ot get an adapter for the plug. the wattage (electricity) is different. i cant remember but i think the prongs are different too. adapter can be found at walmart, or any place that sells travel gear or electric gadgets. just tell them your going to japan they'll know what you need. good luck! and have fun. im so jealous! :)
Yes, with a plug adaptor.

Note that they use 100 instead of 110, so electrical appliances don't work as well.
yes, but you will need an adapter. electrical appliances have to work harder in Japan, so they wear out faster.
I've never had a problem using appliances from America or Japan in either country and I've never used a plug adapter.
