im a chinese in US, and im planning to go japan next summer. but then some people told me i can only stay in japan for 72 hours. is there a way that i can stay there longer??

o by the way i've lived in japan for nearly 6 years.

Are you an American Citizen with an American passport? If you are then you can stay about three months without a visa.
You wrote you have lived in Japan for six years so you should know what status you have to enter Japan. If you are a Chinese citizen please drop in at a Japanese embassy and see if you need a visa to enter Japan. I have read some where sometime ago that there was a change in the visa status for citizen of mainland China.

I'm pretty sure you can stay in Japan longer than 72hours. Whomever told you that lied. Check with your embassy/ consulate on how long you can stay on your passport. Depending on your country passport you may be subject to different rules. If you have a United States passport you can stay in Japan up to 90days without a visa.
Are you on a visa here in the US? Check with USCIS to make sure you can leave the country and that you can come back in. Also check with the Japanese Embassy.
