I lived in Japan for 6 years. I've lived in the US for 22 years.

They both have their advantages and disadvantages. I could easily live in Japan again, but I also love living in the US.

It's obviously easier to do a lot of things here in the USA simply because I'm a US citizen and I speak English fluently. I know enough Japanese to get by in Japan, but it's still a challenge to do many things there because of the language barrier and judgements about Americans and foreigners that some have in Japan (SOME... for the most part the Japanese people are great)

I loved how safe I felt in Japan, I'm a young female and could walk alone at night anywhere and not worry. I wouldn't do that here in the US. I also love Japanese food that isn't the same as here in the US. I love that the Japanese public transportation system lets you get anywhere you need to go without a car, where the US public transportation system overall is VERY lacking.

If you're trying to decide where to live - Japan or the US - I would say try both for awhile, it's a great experience. Source(s): My Life

Japan has pretty much no crime. Everyone respects each other. Japan is a little more expensive to live and everything is smaller I.E. houses, streets. Japan is slightly smaller than California but has more than 90 million more people than California. I personally love it here!

I think japan is so much better i miss it so much. i was open to so many things and i loved the people there. I lived there for 8 years and i was so sad when we moved her to the usa. ew . i would have rather spent my 7 years here back in japan. [:
