Hike to Mt Fuji on this weekend. Is it possible? |
Travel Info How is the weather around Hakone? Travel Tips June and July is recommended hiking season cause it is the warmest and there isn't much snow on the top of the Mt. I think it is a good time to go! Others Weather in Hakone this time of year should be nice.It will get a bit cooler as you ascend the mountain but nothing severe.I climbed Mt.Fuji in 1963--complements of the United States Navy.Awesome! If you're gonna climb Mt Fuji at night, bring along warm clothing. Don't be fooled by the warm climate at stage 5. It can get pretty cold up there, whenever you stop for a rest. I strongly suggest that you start your ascend in the evening so you'll make it to the top, just in time for sunrise. And oh boy, it was worth the trouble. Its a sight I can never forget for the rest of my life. I went there in August '05. Just as other have pointed out, and for anyone who may pass by, you need the correct gear and physical preparation. If you reach the top to early, you will have to wait up there until the sun rises and it is cold up there. about 5-10 degress C, or about 40 F. The weather can turn foul, be ready with the correct gear. I climbed in 2006, we started at 1930 hours, rested along the way at each station, and slept for 2 hours at station 8. We reached the top by about 0430. We were on our way down by about 0800, back home in Shinjuku about 1400. A climbers light, the kind you wear on your head is necessary item. Your body must be ready to work and climb for 8-10 hours. I'm not sure if you could, since the trail would not be open to the public. There is a day in each year in July called, "Yamabiraki", meaning of opening the mountain for climbing. It will be a ceremony by a Shito priest to celebrate the openning of the trail and wish that there will be no accidents on the mountain. Perhaps, you CAN climb it, but it might not be the best time. I believe it is rainy season in Hakone area right now. you're probably about a month too early. The official climbing season opens in July. If you go now, none of the huts on the mountain will be open, and there probably won't be many people around, so there will be noone to help you if you have any problems. I think you also need to get permission from the local police if you want to climb outside of the official climbing season. You will need to take food, water and warm clothes, the weather can be nasty at the top. Don't forget a flashlight and spare batteries either. And your camera, susrise from the top of mt fuji is breathtaking! Good luck! http://www.mustseesights.com |
