What is Japan like in Mid-November (the 16th-27th)? Mainly Tokyo.?

Travel Info
I'm planning to go during these times, but want to know what the weather is like, any cool things going on, etc. Will it be too cold, will people not be out and about. Never been there, so any information will help.

Travel Tips
Don`t forget to look for the little kids being taken to the shrine in their beautiful kimonos for Shichigosan which happens in Mid November....the little 3 year old girls looking so cute, the 5 year old boys looking like little Samurai, and the 7 year old girls in elaborate hairstyles and obis.
This takes place at any shrine in Tokyo, busiest of course on weekends when Papa can join.

note.....Shichigosan is on Nov 15...but when we were booking for our daughter`s Shigosan last year...we found that some people do it until early December. Source(s): http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2284.html...

Other Travel Tips
It's a very nice time to visit Tokyo. The sky is usually sunny, and the temperature is chilly to cold, but not too cold. People are definitely out and about. You'll need a light sweater and/or a jacket/light coat but not a heavy winter coat.

It will be cold, but not unbearably so. Probably 40's-50's at night, and 60's during the day. Tokyo is on the east coast, so it's not nearly as cold there as it will be on the west coast (which gets hit by the Siberian winds.)

The fall leaves will be gorgeous- I would recommend a day trip to either Kamakura or Nikko, as they're a little bit out of town, and you'll get to appreciate the foliage.

Enjoy your trip!
November is nice. It's right after the hot mugginess that is summer here and right before the dreary winter time. It's not too cold during that time, a light jacket or sweater is really all you need. You will see the Japanese population putting on scarves and heavy winter coats during this time, that's because this is what they do after November 1st. Same way that a lot of businessmen will not wear short sleeves before July 1st, it's just what they do.

During that time there are certain festivals such as shichigosan in which the 3, 5 and 7 year olds visit the local shrine to be blessed. It's really cute to see the kids dressed in kimono or the boys as little samurai. I'm never sure of the date of this but I think it's on during that time.

Other things to do would be outside of Tokyo where there are still forests and stuff. When the leaves change colour, a lot of people flock to the countryside to walk in the forests and to celebrate the leaves changing colour. It can be nice to see, but it will be crowded.
