The cost for going one station on the subways or trains will run between 130 - 190 yen so I'd budget for 1000 yen each way. Others Why? Living in Tokyo is EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE!!! Living in Tokyo is like living in NYC. Monthly rent ranges from $800 to $1,200 (80,000 to 120,000 Yen) this is for a small studio apt. Transportation on the subway is about $80 to $120 (8,000 to 12,000 Yen ) dollar for a monthly pass or about 700 yen per trip. Food is about $300 to $500 (30,000 to 50,000) per month per person. Night out about $200 (20,000 Yen) per day. I would say about $300 per day or 30,000 yen per day. If your not making about 250,000 yen a month or about $2,5000 you going to have a hard time.
