Are there people in Japan who follow only Shinto alone? |
Travel Info From my understanding Shinto and Buddhism are practiced together. But are there people who follow ONLY Shinto? Travel Tips Yes. Most famous family is 'Ten nou' (emperor) family. P.S / I guess J is Japanese like me. Here is surveys you can see . http://www.japan-guide.com/topic/0002.ht... Others Yes, but not many. As was previously mentioned, the Imperial Family is probably strictly Shinto, but most people I met in Japan described themselves either as Buddhist or atheist. Of course, there are certain Shinto ceremonies and festivals that Japanese people participate in simply because they are Japanese and Shinto is ingrained in Japanese culture. However, I think the number of people that would describe themselves as only practicing Shinto is very small. Actually the Emperors are not exactly strictly Shintoist. The two co-exist naturally. It was an Imperial Hier Shotoku Taisha who promoted Buddhism in the 7th Century. It used to be the tradition that when an Emperor retired, he would sometimes become a Buddhist cloistered emperor. In the modern era, there was more emphasis placed upon State Shintoism to the detriment of Buddhism and even local Shinto sects. So some right-wingers might be the ones who only follow Shintoism. Yes. There are peoples who believe in and follow Shinto. Since they were born to death. There is a funeral service in Shinto, as well. They are common Japanese, not right-wingers. This is an interesting country when it comes to religion. They say they have 2.5 religion. When they are born they usually follow the Shinto rites , when they marry they use a chapel and when they die they follow the Buddhist rites. self This is interesting.... I was told by a student that he was a Shinto-Buddhist. Maybe that was easier for him to explain. |
