Working in Japan? |
Travel Info Does anybody know how the IT market in Japan is for a person that doesn't speak much Japanese? I've always had an interest in Japan and would like to get the chance to work there. I have a degree and I have about 5 years experience in the field. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Travel Tips Well, you're in luck or at least you have a chance to live your dream. It is possible to live and work in Japan doing IT if you don't speak Japanese. This will limit you to maybe 10% of the jobs out there but depending on your skill set, you should be able to find something. First thing you should do is check out what jobs are available. Most companies will not hire you if you're outside Japan, but it doesn't hurt to get them interested in you. Who knows? Maybe you're a superstar and they'll be fighting tooth and nail to get you over here. http://www.careercross.com/en/ http://www.daijob.com/en/ http://www.panache.co.jp/index_en.html... (although technically a bilingual service they do get the occasional monolingual jobs) From these three sites you can pick up a lot of jobs and a lot of contracting companies will be able to check your resume. The majority of these jobs will be contracts, anywhere from 6 months to 1 year with an option to renew at the end. After a few times through this cycle, assuming they like you and like your work, they can offer you the position full time. This normally means more money, better recognition from Japanese banks and better benefits. The only real downside to it is you don't really get any overtime pay, but you wind up getting paid more so it balances itself out. Source(s): Been working in the IT sector in Japan for 3 years. Other Travel Tips These days, fast-changing IT and financial companies compete with each other in a search for the right staff and recruitment companies also advertise regularly for professional and managerial staff. Contract work has become more common, especially in the areas of networks, DTP and multimedia. There are several companies that specialize in finding and placing foreign staff. http://www.daijob.com/en/ http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2231.html... http://www.japan-zone.com/new/working.sh... |
