how much money will i need to collect in 4 years in order to settle down in tokyo?

Japan is very expensive!!! I am in the Army and I was stationed in Japan for 3 years. The cab fare starts out at $4.50. Everything is overpriced. I was in Okinawa but I did travel to Tokyo and to settle down in Japan after saving 4 years, I would have to say about $225,000. Atleast. Good luck!!!

i suggest you don't go because they are a pure culture and don't like other races in their country plus they will kick out any one not there for business trip or thing like that

It depends on where you want to live and what you do.

Apartments in the middle of Tokyo will cost 80,000 yen (www.xe.com for exchange rates). Most people commute from Chiba or Yokohama where they pay 50,000-60,000 for a small apartment.

Food can cost a minimum of 400 yen a month. Phone will probably be at least 10,000 yen a month. Then transportation, electricity, etc....

What about entertainment??

If you dont go out much and have a decent job, you'll do ok.

Depends you your life style.If you want to go to the foreigner's pubs every night and have a good time all the meaningful advice should be scrapped.Tokyo is rated one of the most expensive cities in the world.
Yet you can live smart ,cheaply and have a good life. I am here many moons.I would say about $3000 a month is living above board.
First, you can't just turn up one day in Tokyo and announce you want to live there. You need to find a job, or marry a Japanese national, or become a student, or get a working holiday visa, etc.

However, assuming you were moving to Tokyo with a job lined up, if you needed also to find accomodation you could easily be looking at $10,000 down for a deposit for a place. I see someone quoted 80,000 yen for central Tokyo, but that would get you no more than a shoebox studio or 1K, I would guess.
