What's the best rail pass plan for long distance commuters to Tokyo, Japan?

Travel Info
I live in Gunma prefecture, and I need to make frequent trips to T-town. What's the best commuter plan?

Travel Tips
The rail passes (or "teiki") only really pay off if you use them at least 20 days a month or more. Depending on what line you are using (JR? Tobu?) you can get the 11 ride tickets and save on at least one one way fare or if you can, try the off peak tickets if you travel between 10am to 5pm.

The best is to get your employer to pay for it, but I'm guessing this isn't business related?

I guess it depends on how you're getting to Tokyo from wherever in Gunma you're living. The next best thing would be getting a bunch of commuter tickets. I think there's a buy 10 get 1 free deal happening but that might be hearsay.

Check with JR and see what they might have for you.

My hubby and I both use the teiki ken, but we use it Monday through Friday every week. We also save an extra 10,000 yen by buying a 6 month pass. Our offices pay our commuter passes so for us it's the best choice and we save an extra 10,000 yen each. I use the Pasmo type because I also use it for my bus transport. I commute quite a bit in one day. It saves me a lot and is useful having just one card to take out all the time. My Pasmo is also good at various shops; bread shop and others. Easy and useful for me. The type of pass best for you will depend on how often you use it and the lines you use. Choose your starting point and destination. You can travel with your pass any where in between! Nice. Hope this helps!鈾?
It depends whether you have much time for commuting or not.

If you can't afford to spend time on commuting, you should use Joetsu-Shinkansen, bullet train. You can commuter pass,
book of tickets, etc...
If you don't care about time needed, you can use expressway
buses. Some expressway buses offer round-trip tickets, commuter pass and some other reduced-price tickets.

In general, express buses takes more time than train. And buses are affected by traffic-jams, weather conditions.
