What do I need to give private english lessons in Tokyo? |
Travel Info I am planning on going to Tokyo for three months to stay at a friend's apartment. I want to earn some spending money while I am there. Any suggestions for making money? I heard tutoring students in English pays well? Do you need a visa for this? Are there part time jobs that an American on a tourist visa can qualify to do? Travel Tips You need students and an employment pass. You cannot work on a tourist visa, because then you wouldn't be a tourist, now would you??? Some people...... Others He's right. you need a work visa...nearly impossible to get. Go to the website below for info. http://www.us.emb-japan.go.jp/english/ht... Officially, you do need a visa to teach legally in Japan, and earn money. Unofficially, I have heard of people on a tourist visa helping local elementary students and Jr. High students with their English studies. And as a show a gratitude their parents give them a monetary "gift". What happens is a foreigner, who is teaching a private student is going on vacation but the students parents want him to continue his studies. So the person going on vacation recommend a friend to take over for a week or so. technically you need a visa for any kind of work. that being said, there is no real way to moniter cash in hand type jobs (ie, tutoring english). If you wanted to find some students, there are heaps of websites that you can register with for free, the potential students browse the info and then contact you. The money can be good. Otherwise you need a job first so your employer can sponsor your work visa - if you worked as a jet or at nova or aeon then they will take care of this for you. http://www.mustseesights.com |
