In japan is dark skin (from tans) a bad thing??? |
Travel Info I don't mean to sound stupid but my favorite anime atm is Peach Girl and in it she has very dark skin due to tanning from swim team and she hates it and always makes a big deal out of wearing sun block and how the dark skin makes her look like a party girl, im just curious if that relates to japanese culture??? Travel Tips In Japan girls who have dark skin are not considered beautiful or cute usually. That's why, so many girls there want to whiten their skin. But these days, looking like white people or black people are so in that some Japanese girls try to look like them. And if they want to look like either white or black people, many of us think that the kind of girls looks so easy. But there are girls who just naturally have dark skin. And these girls are considered, as I said before, not beautiful. In the past, rich people didn't have dark skin because they always stayed at home and did luxurious stuff. On the other hand, poor people always worked outside and their skin got so dark so having dark skin was the symbol of being poor and being poor was not attractive and being not attractive meant not beautiful and cute. So the kind of notion still exists today that many of us think that having dark skin is not good for women because they are not considered as beautiful. I don't really think it's a "bad thing", look at some of the people in Okinawa and many fisherman, They have darker skin because of their location, jobs... But many of my friends try very hard to take care of their skin with UV care and use visors, hats, parasols. They have gorgeous skin! Something like this image, you think? Looks like party girls, so maybe. I think it's more the make up. I know a few people here in Tokyo who have a gorgeous tan and don't mind it. Dark skin is directly related to wealth due to richer people not working and poor people working outside, thus the whiter the skin the more prominent you must be and in Japan as in most asian cultures money is power. now for black men, Japanese women have heard of the myth that black men are just more endowed, thus they want to explore the taboo, or they are just intrigued with the black culture as a whole. This I found out while traveling through Tokyo and talking with some locals... I notice a lot of young people like to go to the beaches and tanning salons and try to get a tan every summer (and even in the winter!), but a lot of older women I know (especially in their 30s or older) are paranoid about getting wrinkles and avoid the sun like the plague. I think it has more to do with getting wrinkles and trying to look like "Audrey Hepburn"in their old age than it does with having dark skin! I am just glad my daughter got her father`s (Japanese) darker skin so she doesn`t burn like me, her very fair skinned, and burns in a few minutes mother! She has a beautiful tan in a few minutes but doesn`t burn! How nice is that? Basically Asian women including Japanese want their skin tone to be lighter than men. However, there are some youngster communities that want to be different than others. They are everywhere in the world, I supposed. The difference is in how/in what way to express themselves. About the Harajuku girls in Japan, they are not only tanning their skin, but also dress up funky, with funky hair style and funky color. Other people outside the gank will not comprehend why they love to be appear like that. |
