Oda Nobunaga- he was one of the greatest rulers in Japan. He unified whole Japan, which was until then divided into small countries,fighting each others.The information in Wikipedia is incorrect about his achievments, so please check this Japanese site instead.

Nobunaga's general, Hideyoshi Toyotomi is another national hero, mostly because he finished the deed of Nobunaga, uified the country, but also beacause of his ambition: he rose form a very poor family to become a regent of the Emperor.

Ieyasu Tokugawa, who put the beginning of the 2 centuries reign of Tokugawa clan and developed the neo-Confucianism as a base of samurai's moral, is also one of the Japanese heroes. He , however, closed Japan for any foreign influence.

And one of the most popular , legendary heroes is Yoshitsune,great leader, warrior and politician, who basicly won the war against the clan Taira, but was betrayed and chased by his older brother Yoritomo outside the country.

It is said that he is strongest samurai.

Togo Heihachiro:
He won Russia by Battle of Tsushima.

Yamamoto Isoroku:
He is a famous admiral of naval forces of a Japanese empire.
