Travel Info Tell me about the conditions now at Hiroshima and Nagasaki since American atomic drops? Travel Tips Oh, the Hiroshima Memorial is just awesome. You will leave a completely different person, seeing firsthand the devastation that happened there. The 2 images I cannot forget from the memorial, a military combat helmet, burned to a crisp yet with some yucky brain matter in it... and the other, the form of a ladder with a man on it... that's where he was when the atomic bomb went off, his image transferred to the side of the building... I still can't forget that. Now, both cities are well-functioning, high-tech cities. But both never forget their past. Others Japan has improved so much and so quickly since the drops. They're doing better than America right now. Hiroshima is a very large city today. The only remaining evidence of the devastation of WWII are those items and sights that have been preserved (and in the survivors who still suffer). Nagasaki is the same. Great cities! You wouldn't see any sign or remains of the devastation, except if you visit the atomic bomb/ peace memorial monument and museum. I went there in the spring. The shinkansen was going so fast I didn't have time to snap a picture but the city is amazing and my grandma said they has some kind of memorial on a jill or something. They have settled. They even serve very good (Champon)noodles and Okonomiyaki. I went to Nagasaki for a vacation just last autumn. It was wonderful! Such a beautiful city and the people are very hospitable. I have been to Hiroshima 3 times and its always wonderful. 1 thing you notice going to these cities and travelling to many other cities (Tokyo, Osaka and others that were fire bombed) is that there are a limited number of buildings that are pre-WW2. If you are asking about the remains of nuclear fallout. It is long gone, remember thats more than 60 years ago now. |
