Hello everybody!!! heve you ever been to japan? |
Travel Info what's japan like?thanks for the answer!!!! Travel Tips I am a big fan of Japan and have been there over 30 times, hanging around big cities as well as quiet mountain areas for hiking/ birds watching, seaside and hot springs. What I find her amazing is that she's full of contradictions, It is a place full of - ancient traditions vs. most edgy technology => geisha vs. virtual TV play girl - old buildings vs. new stylish design => temple/ palace/ old small shops in small street vs. new Roppongi museum, etc. - authentic cuisine vs. fusion flavour => wrestlers' hot pot/ sushi vs. Japanese-western spaghetti/ pizza/ bread - Small quiet fishing village vs. Big cosmopolitan city => Katsuura in the south vs. Tokyo - small shops vs. giant retailers => The new huge Big Camera in Namba of Osaka looks more like an office block that can house thousands of workers - authentic vs. bold daring clothing style => they wear Yugata (traditional clothing) for special festivals and shorts/ tights/ any outrageous clothing that you can imagine during fun times - extreme politeness vs. extreme absurdity => people used handkerchieves for environmental reason but wasted a lot of papers in wrapping/ packing => there is a "sound machine" in the ladies' toilet. They turn it on to hide the actual wee sounds to avoid embarrassment => puntually at 4pm, women dressing in brands would stream into the coffee shops of big department stores in Ginza to start their socialising activity. Puntually at 7am, homeless living in blue cavas tents in Shinjuku Central Park wake up for excercise and toothbrushing to prepare to go to work. There are more more.... It is so different from any other countries in Asia and the world. Ten years ago, going to Japan to me is very expensive. However, as there is no inflation at all in Japan, the price just stays virtually the same in the past decade for almost everything. So it appears that it is not as expensive as before. At least, I am sure the cost there is cheaper than in London or Scandinavia. People there are generally nice but proper caution is needed always for a traveller. If you love haagen dazs ice cream, Japan offers the cheapest price in Asia. For wine, the price is also among the cheapest in Asia. Stay open and keep eyes wide open. There are much more to discover. The best way for you to have a true feeling for this country rather than just reading descriptions from answers is to go there and see yourself. Wish you enjoy if it happens that you have a chance to go there. Others it's like any other country i was born there, but left before 2nd birthday, don't remember it My uncle was in a POW camp there yes realy big Not yet, but i want to go.. Take care.. Bcn_mimosa Yes, and I loved it - great food, fascinating culture, lovely people, safe, not too expensive if you're sensible, all the latest modern gadgets and architecture, but carefully preserved ancient buildings and traditions too. It helps to read a really good guide book before you go such as the 'Lonely Planet' one, so you're well prepared. |
