Born and raised in Japan. Depending on where in Tokyo you are, it might take about an hour. I think it is more like $10. It took me 2 hours when I used to live in Chiba. Chiba is on the other side of Tokyo. The Narita express goes to the airport from Yokohama via Tokyo. That takes less than 30minutes but (a) it will probably be more expensive than normal trains and (b) not sure if you can buy a ticket unless your destinaton is the airport. But if time is a criterion, then may be worth checking out. Hi, Just did a check on the hyperdia website. It takes about 30 mins if you take the direct train from Yokohama to Shinjuku (JR ShonanShinjuku Line). Costs Yen540.
