Has anyone done the Jet program? |
Travel Info I am going to apply for the jet program in 2007 as an ALT but I want to know what a winning essay is like..... so If you already got accepted maybe you can give me some tips and any issues or suggestions you had/have with the program would help 2 how difficult is it to get in? (also as an assistant language teacher does that mean your job is just to help out the main language teacher or are you teaching on your own) Travel Tips Talk about why you want to go to Japan, what you hope to accomplish there, what your future goals are after the JET Program, how this exp. will help you, etc. It's only a two page essay, so that should be plenty to write about. It's not super hard to get into JET (acceptance rate is about 50%) They take into account a number of factors: grades, subjects studied in school, hobbies, interview results, study abroad experience, etc. You are correct, as an ALT (assistant language teacher)you won't be alone in the room without the teacher. You will be assisting the teacher. As for the JET experience, they will tell you when you get to Tokyo that every situation is different. It all depends on your local Board of Education (if you're teaching Junior High) or the Prefecture ( if you're in Senior HS). Most people have a great time and love it. I'm sure you will too. Most likely you'll be placed in a relatively rural area, but you'll make good money and have subsidized rent. You'll also be part of a huge community of JETs. and that helps. Source(s): former JET (Hyogo-ken) Other Travel Tips ALT teachers teach with a Japanese teacher. I have many freinds who were JET teachers and they LOVED it. Good luck. |
