Where to go in Tokyo/Yokohama to see car drifting? |
Travel Info Hello, my boyfriend and me plan to go to Tokyo July 2009. He is into car drifting and japanese cars. We really dont know where to go or to find places where they do it.Hopefully somebody can help... Travel Tips There is NO drifting in Tokyo/Yokohama so if you got that impression from watching a certain movie (not going to waste my breath saying), shame on you. I have been in the underground drift scene for quite a while and you are not going to find the answer online. You need to meet the locals who are in the scene for that. If you want to see it done professionally on a course, check out D1 Japan Series. However the 2009 schedule is far from being decided, and there are no courses in Tokyo. Nearest is in Motegi, 1.5hours from the city. You'll have much better luck checking out "drifters paradise" in Osaka for underground events, but it IS illegal to even watch!! Source(s): http://www.d1gp.co.jp/ Other Travel Tips underground or professional? The pros actually have a race circuit and schedule based around it. As to see underground racing(which is highly illegal) you are not going to. Anywhere. Those guys are secretive and very protective. If you are only visiting you can only see real races. Look up races whenever you get there. Like they say, the illegal stuff is elusive. Those guys communicate by cell phone in order to avoid law enforcement. The participants themselves only know where it's going to go down very shortly before it goes down. If I had to take a guess on where it might happen in Kanto I would go with Odaiba or near the Kawasaki side of the Aqualine. Try the legit drifting at Fuji or Motegi. A DVD store ? type in D1GP in yahoo search |
