I'm a single American woman considering an expat assignment in Tokyo. How's the social life there? |
Travel Info Can anyone tell me if there are expat communities to join? Other expats to date? That sort of thing... Travel Tips The social life there is awesome. Foreigners in Japan always have a common bond and it won't take much to make new friends. I made many friends at Starbucks, bars, and even at work. If you work for a big company, it'll feel like a big community. Also, the US Embassy has social groups. Others Most Japanese that I came across were so very social. Even if they speak little english they will try hard to communicate with you because they like practice it. I think it also depends on what part of Japan you are in. Tokyo like most cities proably have a lot of busy people running around and you wont find as much friendly people as the less crowded parts. As for the dating scene, the men there are adorably shy especially if you are a foreigner but don't let that fool you. They are such fun to be around. |
