American Money converted to Yen? |
Travel Info I'm planning a summer vacation in Tokyo, Japan next summer. So right now I'm trying to figure out everything so that I will know how much to save up for certain things. Anyways, I wanted to have at least 1000-1,500 for spending money while I'm there. I converted it to yen and it was about 122350 yen. I'm just trying to figure out if that is a lot of money in Japan... I'm not sure how much anything cost there. If you could help me or send me some websites, it would be helpful...because I'm not having any luck finding much myself. =P lol Travel Tips Minimum for a hotel 6,000 yen a night. Food for 400 yen or more per meal. Don't take taxis. Trains, subways and buses will do. They aren't expensive but will vary depending on how far you go. $1,000 will be fine unless you stay for 2 weeks or more. Others It's depending on how long you will stay. Normally I spend at least 10,000 yen per day for meal and accommodation. But if you want to go any tour or theme park such as Tokyo Disney Land, you would spend more. By the way, Japanese summer is not so comfortable. You had better check the climate. Personally I prefer autumn :) Tokyo in summer is HOT and humid and central air conditioning is not always a garuntee, especially in lower priced hotels, onsens and student travel dorms. August is also one of the prime vacation seasons in Japan, especially early in the month, so hotels fill fast and costs are generally higher. If you plan to travel end of July. early August, you best book accomadations NOW for next summer. Also, be aware of the fact that Japanese women generally do not wear shorts or camisole/tank tops. You are better off to pack light weight skirts, capris and the like as shorts will definitely make you stand out even more and may even prevent you from entering places like resteraunts or temples. If the amount you quote above is just fun money (meaning you have seperate funds for food and lodging) you are fine. If that figure is meant to include food, lodging and fun, you need to at least double it, possibly triple it depending on where you want to stay as far as location and class of hotel. Something to look into is host families...my nephew spent a summer in Japan, living with a Japanese family. He went to school with the son and really got to see more than he might have on his own. There are travel groups that arrange tours like that...do a net search. As far as costs, for hotels just check expedia or travelocity to get general ideas of costs and locations. Food wise, if you plan to stick to noodle places, small sushi and the like, $50 a day would cover it (assuming the exchange rate holds). Believe it or not, you can get inexspensive lunches and even dinners in the grocery stores, convenince stores and food halls of major department stores...lots of items cooked and ready to eat for under 500 yen! As far as fun money, once you know where you are staying, you can do some research to see what there is you want to do.
