If i was to buy something in japan would it cost less then in the us.?

Travel Tips
For the most part, no.
The only things that would be cheaper are specialty items produced in Japan that get resold in the US -- if you can find a buyer dying to get their hands on such-and-such a figurine or such-and-such a book or magazine, then yeah. But I personally have never been that interested in anime or manga. That stuff is still not cheap in Japan by any means--you'd have to find a fan in the US w money to spend (most fans seem to be very young and not rich. . .!).

Another category that is probably cheaper is traditional Japanese items of all sorts (old and used, not new)--dolls, kimono, pottery, lacquerware, furniture etc. These kind of things CAN be bought very cheaply if you know where to look!! But, again you can't necessarily bank on being able to mark that stuff up and resell it abroad (although I am sure there is small group on ebay and elsewhere doing exactly that). I bought lots of nice things, but they were just for myself. If you want to buy those things new, they can be VERY expensive (eg a new kimono!)

Then there's a third category--things that are not cheap per se--it's just that they are not produced in the US, for example such-and-such a digital camera or cellphone, etc. But the warranty on those items becomes null and void if you take them out of Japan. (But for a camera I wouldn't worry really).

Depends on the item
it really depends
a jar of pickles?? no
I think so because they don't have the transport charges
Currently the US dollar is worth 122 yen, so on a one to one exchange, the current rate is in our favor. However, just about everything in Japan is more exspensive than it is here. The 100yen coin is used like we use quarters. In general, it costs more to buy things in Japan then it would here, no matter the item or the exchange rate.
Normally, no. I think the only things that I have found cheaper in Japan are the cigarettes, cars and electronics.

I think cigarette prices are cheaper than 500 yen but then again I don't live in Japan like Rek T
