Why isn't there a bullet train in Shikoku? |
Travel Info Why isn't there a bullet train in Shikoku? Travel Tips Shikoku is too rural. Others Because Japanese government no more run railway, and JR(Japan Railway) Shikoku Co. is in the red. So it's impossible to build the infrastructure for bullet train. Shikoku isn't so heavily industrialized as Kanto, Kinki or Tokai. There aren't so many workers, who would need to cover long distance in very short time, and are ready to pay even if the price is high. While morning and evening trains from one major industrial center in Kanto , Kinki and Tokai to another are simply packed, even an ordinary train in Shikoku runs under its full capacity during the week days. People use buses, which are cheap and fast, and run every hour or 30 min (from Matsuyama to Takamatsu). |
