Where should I live in Tokyo? |
Travel Info I'm going to be living somewhere in the Tokyo area for 3 months this spring/summer. My SO and I are geeky Canadians with a love of anime and Japanese culture. We're thinking of staying in a gaijin house, somewhere central and near a train station. What areas of Tokyo do you suggest we look at? Travel Tips Gaijin houses are great. You really should just pick the one that sounds the best to you and go with it regardless of location as long as it is in the Greater Tokyo Metro Area. A train runs in Tokyo every three minutes and you can get anywhere in the whole city for less than $4. You can also get unlimited use tickets to ride the trains whenever and where ever you want. It is probably the easiest major city in the world to get around. If you really want to be close to the Anime stuff though you should stay near Akihabara or Harajuku, but honestly where ever you stay it's really easy to get around. Others After you get all of the legal and visa requirements taken care of, you can hang out with all the comic maniacs in Nakano and or Akihabara. You should live in a place that's not Tokyo. Try Minami Gyoutoku area ..not far from Tokyo if you take subways.. I think they have no key deposit/ 2 months advance payments but other place ask for advance deposit http://www.t-guesthouse.jp/eng/faq.html... I would suggest that you stay in either Shinjuku or Ikebukuro. They are very convenient for tourists and you can get to many places easily from these 2 areas. Personally, i prefer Ikebukuro because there's an Animate over there, where i can buy all the anime merchandise. |
