Where can one go to enjoy Japan's pop culture? |
Travel Info Japan is filled with an exciting culture and many attractions for young people. What are the cities, centers, and events one can go to experience this? Travel Tips The Japanese Youth Mecca is Harajuku in Tokyo. Japanese young people gather there regularly in crazy costumes, but Sunday night is the busiest. There's also a bunch of great shops in the area too. P.S.: Sloane is an idiot. I've lived in Japan for 5 years and no one has been anything but really nice to me. In general, Japanese people think western foriegners are cool. In fact the only people who seem to have a rough time in Japan are from other asian countries, China and Korea in particular. Others I have a surprise for you.... Asians do not like foreigners. Why else do you think that Eastern Asian countries are so unmixed? You have been warned. All of my friends are Asians... and my friend is half Asian... a lot of them do not like foreigners. Shibuya is the pop culture center for Tokyo. In my 3.5 years in Tokyo, I have had a wonderful experience. You have been invited to experience Tokyo. Shibuya (娓嬭胺) in Tokyo is the place to be for the younger generations in Japan. For anime, videogames and electonics Akihabara (绉嬭憠鍘? is a must go. Also check out Kabuchiko in Shinjuku for the host/hostess bars, a japan only scene. Sloane is right....your not likely to get a warm welcome, but shibuya, shinjuku, tokyo in general fo real, just like any other place, it depends on what your into is where you will wanna go. pop culture is to big. to many sub genres to give you recommendations. Ueno is a great choice, with the zoo, museums, and a big park it麓s easy to go there! I agree with David about Sloane, Japanese people are just too kind with foreigners. |
