Source(s): http://www.yfu-usa.org Other Travel Tips Well, you need to find a program that offers exchanges to Japan. Every program may have different requirements that you must fulfill in order to be accepted. Some may require you to study Japanese for a specific number of years, and others may not require any prior knowledge. You will definitely need a passport, and if you plan on being an exchange student for an academic year, you'll need a student visa (which you can only obtain after you've been accepted by a program). Mainly, you need to be a student in a school somewhere in the world. Preferably a Jr. High, a High school, or a university. Your school will need to contact a school in Japan and establish an Exchange student program. Things like tuition, room and board need to be hammered out by your school admin. Also, the number of students that are able to be "Exchanged" at any one time. Once the contract has been signed by both schools, your school can send you to Japan as an exchange student. So, depending on the conditions of the Exchange student program contract between the schools, that will dictate the things you need to prepare. Standard stuff for international travel, etc. Schools in Japan are always looking for opportunities to begin exchange student programs with schools in the US and other countries. Good luck! Me. I was on the committee at my school to establish exchange student programs with schools in China, Taiwan, the USA, and Australia. Ask one of your school counselors... Most of the high schools should have the information on the exchange programs in your area.. Check out the Rotary Club.. they offer a great program www.rotary.org Check out the CIEE program www.ciee.com Many other programs out there... AFS is also a good program.. Age range is usually 15-18.. Some have grade averages that you must meet.. I have hosted 4 exchange students in my home.. it was a great experience... Good luck and enjoy.. |
