Bad luck.

According to my dictionary - punishment or drumstick, depending on how it's written.
Growing I would hear the word "bachi". We took the term to mean like bad luck or bad aura, that something we did would bring the universe down on us.

Retribution.

"bachi ga ataru" is a warning from a thought of retribution and karma.
In Hawai'i we use it to mean something like karma, when something bad happens to you after you do something bad. Like if I play a prank on my friend and then a bird poops on my head, he can say "bachi" to me.

Here in Japan, my girlfriend uses it the same way to me. But I'm not sure if she's using it the way Japanese people use it, or the way I, and other people from Hawai'i, use it (if it's different).
