What's the F$%)(*# is in Kansas City?? |
Travel Info Ok....please don't take offense, but I'm considering a move to Kansas City MO for a job and I'm wondering what the heck is out there?? I think you guys must be the most land-locked city in the USA!! So what do you do for fun out there? Travel Tips I moved to Kansas City in Dec. last year and I .loved it. However, if you need any type of help financially the organizations there will NOT help you. They told me they didn't care if my electric was shut off or I was starving, they couldn't help me. It is an absolutely beautiful city but it's big..Crime is major there. Within 2 months my car was broken in to. traffic is major especially in the loop. The people that I met there have the attitude that "we mind out own business"..Murders take place broad daylight and nobody sees anything. As far as things to do..they have comedy clubs, dance clubs, etc. They have some beautiful old houses that you can tour. Sorry for the negative about it but after 2 months I had to come back to AR because I was losing my shirt. There are a lot of places to volunteer (though some I wouldn't advice). Probably hasn't been a lot of help but I just don't want to start a job and then get in the mess I was in of not having money to stay or having vandalism or something like I did..If you do go WATCH YOUR BACK. Source(s): I live there Other Travel Tips I don't live in KC, but a couple hours away in a smaller city in Kansas and I visit from time to time. Depending on your age, there are different things to do. There is a pretty decent theme park (I would compare it to Six Flags) called Worlds of Fun. In the summer Oceans of Fun, a water park is also opened. For bars, the Westport district is pretty concentrated with clubs, pubs and bars. There are several historical museums there, such as the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, if you are interested in that stuff. There is also The Plaza, which is the city's upscale shopping and entertainment district. I think that's where there are a lot of fountains in the city (it is known as the "City of Fountains" as well as the sister city of Sevilla, Spain). The city is home to the Kansas City Royals professional baseball team, the Kansas City Chiefs professional football team, as well as many other semi-professional teams and college teams. There are many other entertaininment and dining options in the city, but I could not give you many specifics other than the fact that I go to a lot of concerts in the city. Other than that, some of the surrounding Kansas suburbs have the usual suburban stuff. My favorite mall out there is the Oak Park...I think it is in Olathe, one of the fastest-growing cities in the country (also located in one of the richest counties in the country, Johnson county). I think it is pretty much an average city with average city "things" -- there is entertainment and even a ghetto area -- but definitely with a Midwest charm. The one difference I have found is that Kansas City people are, in general, a lot nicer than people you may meet in other larger cities, especially coastal cities I have visited. Also, in general, the city is pretty clean and I almost always feel safe there. live in KC area TONS of things to do in KC, depending upon your interests. It is a great place to live. Lots of live entertainment, of all varieties, every type of restaraunt, museums, dance clubs, festivals, cultural activities.... You will like it here!
