Early 20's single guy moving to Kansas City in Jan 07. I enjoy nightlife and safe living, where do u suggest?

Travel Info
I am working in Overland Park, but want to live close to the nightlife areas. Money is not really an issue, so where do you suggest I start looking for apartments that are within walking distance of nightlife areas? Also, does public transportation run 24/7? Thinking maybe I could live on the outskirts of the city and take the buses to clubs and back, is that possible. Any suggestions on nightlife, living areas for young, single guy would be appreciated. THanks

Travel Tips
If you are working in Overland Park then I would suggest you find a apartment on the Kansas side.If you live in Missouri they you will have the hassle of filing 2 state income tax returns also Kansas City, MO has a 1% earnings tax if you live or work in KC,MO. The Ideal situation for you would be in the Rosedale neighborhood of Kansas City,KS around 39Th and state line road near KU medical center, there is many places to choose from studio apartments Mission road studios (43rd and Mission Road) go for $375.00 per month plus electric. There is plenty of apartments, Condos, duplexes and houses in the area to accommodate the KU medical and Nursing students. There is plenty of night life in that area especially on 39Th street which 5 blocks east it feeds into Westport Road where the night life really heats up. If you live on the outskirts you may have trouble with the bus schedule as they don't run late at night.

Others
Try looking for apartments in the Plaza area. They're spendy, but you say money is not an issue. It's safe in that area. But the safest place to live is in the outskirts of KC, MO, for obvious reasons. Drive around the neighborhoods to see if you'd be comfortable living there. You could also ask some of the people you work with what they think.

Nightlife for persons in their 20's is in the Westport area. There are several clubs geared towards people in your age bracket.

The buses do not run all night, but the taxi's do, so if you've had a little too much to drink, you can get a ride home. Just don't leave your car parked at the bar, you won't have much of a vehicle left when you return in the morning. Also, walking home from the bar is not a good idea.

Good luck in your search. I lived in the KC, MO area for 8 years. KC is a great city to live in, if you stay aware of what's going on around you.
I would look for an apartment on the Plaza or in the Westport area. Both are surrounded by Kansas City's nightlife. These areas are between 39th Street and 47th Street. Don't go east of Troost (dangerous) and don't go too far west of State Line (no longer the nightlife area).

Public transportation doesn't run 24/7 but Kansas City is a place where you really need a car anyway. I guess you wanted to know in case you've had too much to drink??
As a 20 plus year resident of the city, I would have to go with the fisrt two answers. The plaza is probably your best bet for housing, and westport is definitely the center of night life. Living on the plaza would also put you centered to many cultural attractions as well, such as the art museum and several great historical sites.
I suggest the plaza or westport area...the westport area has nightlife every day of the week and also nice dining options...The plaza has nice shopping, nice dining and the movies as well, maybe three times or four times a week you can find nightlife...Hope this helps
Definetly the Plaza....Its has nightlife close by with westport, but aslo probably has some nicer living arangements (Safer) sometimes the clubbers get out of control in the westport area, while they do have the best bars and clubs.....Which make westport great for partying....If you shop and like fancyer resturants the plaza is for you. More up scale type stores and resturants. Also those areas get crowded with traffic at night so try somewhere just outside of the Plaza....Good Luck and happy house, condo aparment, etc.....Hunting!
Live in Kansas City for 11 years and my mom works at American Century on the Plaza
