Travel Info I'm trying to find anything about Mount Zion Cemetery in Kansas but cannot find it anywhere I go to.? Travel Tips I lived in that area and worked on a survey crew for a few years, traveling all over the Flint Hills. I can see other forgotten cemeteries in my minds eye, but I'm not keenly familiar with that particular road (which shows as singular "Lyon Creek Road" on Google maps). I did not find the info you were looking for, but I did find a contact's info on rootsweb who seems to live on the road. Perhaps contact with this person would answer your question. I assume you are not in the area. If you are, there is no lack of information about the history. The oldest state capitol is on the west edge of Fort Riley and a few short miles from the area you are researching. And the old timers of the area know the history very well and are usually anxious to talk with those who have interest in the past (even if they don't otherwise talk to "outsiders"). While it is dated/old, here is the info on the contact: DATE: Sun Jan 11 12:09:38 1998 NAME: Jerry Cody EMAIL: jcody@hotmail.com NOTE: 15520 W. Lyon Creek Road Junction City, Ks. 66441 SURNAMES: COADY, CODY, SYKES, JOHNSON, CHANCELER QRYTEXT: James Henry Coady family moved from Swaalow Bluff,Decatur County, Tenn. to Cooke County, Tx. in 1884. Looking for any info on his family tree. Here's another. There is a Lutheran church camp on the road. Perhaps someone there has info. Their contact page: http://www.tomahshinga.com/contact/index... There's another Mount Zion in Osage County right by Pomona Reservoir. Could this be the one? There's a list of names from headstones at this website: http://www.interment.net/data/us/ks/osag... And another right in the center of the eastern border of Kansas listed as above at http://www.interment.net/data/us/ks/linn... Same one? Different? Close to Redfield. http://www.topozone.com/map.asp?lat=37.8... And a Jewish one in Leavenworth County Society of the Sons of Truth Cemetery (Mount Zion Cemetery) (The Jewish Cemetery): 39潞 17' 19" North, 94潞 56' 22" West Obviously, its a common name. I focussed on central and northeastern Kansas. There are others in southcentral. I live in the Chicgo area now, but still have friends in Manhattan. If you are not close enough to do a drive-by, I'd be glad to see if any of my friends would do a little field trip and drive the area to see if they can locate it. The road isn't very long. Post a way to cantact you if you'd like me to ask. Others Did you narrow it down to a CITY in Kansas? Looks like it is in the southern part of Kincaid Kansas. http://www.city-data.com/township/rich-a... http://maps.google.com/maps?num=50&hl=en... Suggest putting words relating to your question at "google" and there you will get 1000,s of answers, to narrow down to exactly what you need just keep adding or rewording entry. From Kansas Mount Zion Cemetery to Kansas Cemetery Mount Zion... Good Luck! And may the Lord be with you especially if reasons may be from recent circumstances... |
