KANSAS CITY things to do? |
Travel Info I will be in kansas city with my boyfriend to see a show in december. can you help me figure out what else to do while i'm there? we need names of a few good indie/80's bars/clubs to hang out at after the show (which is at the uptown theater). also, is there anything fun for daytime in the winter? i saw the plaza and crown center shopping look nice. Travel Tips If you like shopping, after you've bought everything in Crown Center and the Plaza, try the new Legends Mall near the speedway and while you're there stop next door at Cabella's to look at all the wildlife displays (and check out the antique guns for sale back in their gun library if you're into that). Try ice skating at Crown Center for a day-time activity. While you're on the Plaza, have the knife-and-fork ribs at Houston's. Others KC has a large underground hip hop scene, if you're into that. I was just there a week or so ago. Not a whole lot unless you plan to drive far. There is a shopping area called the country club plaza, it's all lite up this time of year. It has a lot of great stores for outdoor shopping and they're horse-drawn carriages if you dont want to walk the whole thing. There is also botantical gardens and historical stuff but I'm not sure where that is exactly. Been there The Plaza is great. So is Crown Center at this time of year. The Legends is a fairly new shopping area by the Kansas Speedway. Great stores... Some of them are outlets (Gap, Banana Republic). You also might check out the art gallery. It's one of the best. If you like line dancing, check out the Beaumont Club in Westport or Denim & Diamonds in North Kansas City. You also have to be sure to have some Kansas City BBQ. Keep in mind that KC is very spread out, so hopefully you have rented a car. Have fun! If you want to catch a movie, go to the VIP Room at the Cinemark at Country Club Plaza. It's a very different movie-going experience -- there's about 45 seats in the entire theater, and every seat is a leather recliner with a table next to it. They have a wait staff and food service, and a complete bar. Note that nobody under 21 is allowed in the theater. If you have a car, there are 2 good 80's bars. Funkytown, it is at 63rd St & I-435 and Roxy's which is at 75th and Metcalf. Westport (which is just north of the Plaza) has a lot of different bars but probably not the kind you are looking for. More like "college frat" bars to me. The Plaza is definitely beautiful this time of year! |
