What should I know about the culture in Kansas City? |
Travel Info I have a job interview in Kansas City next month. I am from the Northwest and have never been in that part of the country. Anyone who is from the Northwest or has been here and is also familiar with Kansas City, what differences did you notice between here and there? Travel Tips We like BBQ here, but we have lots of fancy restaurants too. We also like a lot of Jazz and Blues here. You will see a lot of Bush haters on corners too! If your interview is in the plaza area you probably want to dress nicer than usual. Good Luck! Others in what part of town in kansas city is the interview at and what building teaa me if you know beatheny@yahoo.com they like their Steaks and BBQ Go to "www.city-data.com" - there is a TON of information on Kansas City on their page as well as a forum where you can talk directly to people from that city and get a feel for the area. There are a lot of old posts on the forum as well that you can search and read up on from people who had similar questions. On the Kansas City page they have pictures, weather stats, populations demographics and all that stuff. "http://www.city-data.com/city/kansas-cit... and make sure to stop by the Forum and chat with the locals to get a feel for the culture and general opinions of the area. You can ask specific questions to people who live there as well. I think it would benefit you more than this site would. Hope that helps and good luck! Fellow Relocator We have tons of culture here. Nelson Art Gallery, Negro Leagues Museum, and much more. There are tons of vegans here as well. There's a lot of natural food stores on Main St...around 43rd and Main off the top of my head. Ask around...even people walking on the streets in Westport. They'll point you in the right direction of some great vegetarian food. I know Jereusalem Cafe has lots of vegan food and they are in Westport. It's not to exciting from my point of view. It's the midwest so the culture is limited, lots of bible thumpers (since it is in the bible belt) There are some good things to do such as shopping or just walking around the Plaza, Crown center (which are both downtown). And a good art museum. And my favorite, the sports teams, (although the baseball team isn't that great) the chiefs and the royals. It will be okay that you are a vegetarian, it's not required to eat meat, I wouldn't say that's a characteristic of KC. |
