They invest in a good below-ground storm cellar instead, I guess. All new construction of houses have to include basements by state law. Contrary to popular believe, not all houses are made out of wood. For the same reason people build homes on earthquake fault lines, in flood zones, on cliffs prone to mud slides, on the coasts of Florida, etc...because they can...because that's what they can afford...and because they don't think it will happen to them. And as someone else said, if a tornado hits your home, it doesn't matter much what it is made of...it's coming down. Because its cheap.....they have to rebuild all the time. because in many parts of Kansas they don't have access to better technology. Therefore they use the resources they are given. |
